Just a heads up on Everest windscreen replacement. I had a rock come off a semi last week resulting in a star about level with the top of the steering wheel in front of me. As I thought to myself that should repair, it cracked to the edge of the screen approx 20cm. So it is up for a new windscreen. RACQ covers one a year at no cost. O'briens rang me to book it in and said they need it for two hours. Fair enough. BUT.... It then has to go on a tow truck to Ford so they can calibrate the cameras on the windscreen and they need it for 6 hours! WTF?!?! That's a day off the road for a windscreen? Not to mention I either hang around and wait or pay for a taxi to and from. Is this for real? has anyone else experienced this???

Yes indeed , I've done 2 x screens in the last 12 months, both times I have had O'Brien's repair at the local Ford dealership to speed the process. Still a pain in the arse though!

Hi
Yeah i have been wondering how long it would take. I know friends with a subaru who told me it would take some time due to recalibration of cameras. The other thing they said that make sure u have a free windscreen as the screens are very expensive. Looks like no matter what brand of car, its becoming the norm to have this done every windscreen replacement. Their car is a subaru outback with windscreen cameras.

I had a small stone chip which resulted in the whole windscreen being replaced. Cost $1180! Thankfully I had ticked that one replacement windscreen box when doing my insurance.

$1180??? OMG! Really? I dont have windscreen insurance. When I got my insurance I decided against it because in my 20 years of driving i have never had a screen replaced. SIGH!

@brianl For the first time in my life I ticked yes for the windscreen insurance for mine, mainly cause i had no idea what a replacement was worth - coming from the Falcon where it was chump change to replace if it broke..., bloody glad i did now if thats what they cost!

well I finally got around to calling Obriens today, and all the advice on here was accurate, however they are quoting me $1800 for my replacement. $750 is the windscreen and the remainder is Ford.
And Obriens will not replace a windscreen without it being calibrated. It is their policy.
I will be ringing ford directly tomorrow to remind them that if they want me to continue to have my car serviced by them, then they had better sharpen their pencil on the calibration quote.

I was quoted over 2 grand for a Mazda CX-5 and didn't have window insurance so just claimed on accident insurance, luckily only had to pay 250 excess.
